Customer Rating: Summary: Will collect dust Comment: As other reviewers have said, its not very good!
The menus are too basic and long winded. Car handling is absolutely terrible. Its like the wheels are turning on the back instead of the front. There is no way to adjust the sensitivity of steering, so your pretty much stuck with it.
I haven't tried Colin Mcrae, but Sega Rally is proabably not going back in my machine! Customer Rating: Summary: Not as good as the classic arcade we remember Comment: As the title says this game is a big let down, my first go and feeling how the cars handle was so dissapointing its sad. The cars are permanently sideways and feel so fake, the car is pretty much flat out round all corners without the need to brake much, the environment engine which states no two laps are the same is poor aswell because its generally "some" racing line that just appears as groves in the road and doesnt affect the game too much. The graphics I have to say are good and the sound is above par, these are the only reason I don't rate this game 1!!!! Customer Rating: Summary: Life in the old dog Comment: If you are after a realistic racer, or are a motorsport fan then this isn't the game for you. I would describe this as an arcade racer taylor made for the console market (with unlockables etc) rather than a game like PGR or Forzza which is more in depth car wise, Sega rally has an instant pick up and play air about it though that neither of those two do.
I originally got it upon release and am still playing it and enjoying it a couple of months down the line. The tracks and backgrounds look great (again not realistic tracks) I don't like any of the modern racing games abd no longer have any in my collection other than this, so if like me you enjoyed the original sega racers or arcade racers. Then with its cheap price you can't really go wrong here
Online leaderboards also add to the longevity as it means once your done with the career mode you will always have a challenge there. Customer Rating: Summary: Could be better Comment: Having been a fan of this game on older formats, I bought this game mainly because I wanted a no thrills racing game you can just turn on play.
I have to agree with some of the others here, that the steering feels like you're skating around on ice all the time. I've never been a big fan of using the thumbstick controls to steer, as they seem to be over-sensitive - certainly with this game. A slight turn to the left or right & the car wants to turn 90 degrees ! You alway feel in constant battle with the car, even keeping it on a straight road.
The Quick Race option is difficult, as the 6 cars you race against are long gone after the first corner of the track, even though you have done nothing wrong ? It's as if your car is in a entirely different class, and you spend most of the race playing catch up.
Overall an average game. Customer Rating: Summary: Arcade racing at its best Comment: If you're looking for an over-the-top rally racing game look no further than Sega Rally Revo. If you're looking for a hardcore rally experience this isn't the game for you, think of Sega Rally as the Ridge Racer of rally games.
There are a handful of offline options such as Championship, Time Trial and Free Run. Championship is the heart of the game where you compete for points in multiple sets of 3 or 4 races. The points you earn during the Championship allow you to unlock new championships, tracks and cars, all of which can be used in the other offline modes as well as online. You don't need to win every race to unlock items, you may only need to score a total of 240 points out of a possible 280 to unlock everything.
There are three main groups of cars in Sega Rally, Premier, Modified and Classic. Premier are your modern WRC rally cars, Modified are mostly cars from the smaller rally championships around the world and the Classics are the old Group B monsters from the 80's. You can unlock new liveries for the cars when you hit 20 miles and 50 miles driven in each particular car. This helps to spread out the use of each car although you'll probably find one or two models that you'll use over and over.
Track selection is a little light, there are five enviroments, Tropical, Safari, Canyon, Alpine and Artic, another is unlocked later in the game. Each enviroment features three tracks all of which can be unlocked to be raced in reverse. One good thing is that none of the tracks are bad tracks, in fact I'd say that for the most part they're all exceptionally well laid out. Geo-Deformation allows for deep ruts to be carved into the track while racing. These ruts can really pull your car around and play into racing strategy.
Online options are plentiful and fun and lag is non-existant. Full online Championships can be created and raced among friends. Nothing groundbreaking here but it works well and adds to the replay value.
Graphically the game looks very nice with not much more than a hint of aliasing and the framerate seems a steady 30fps at all times. There are some nice effects such as cars getting muddy and then having the mud washed off by a large puddle. The enviroments are nice to look at and offer a lot of variety between each. Watching the Aurora Borealis while racing the Artic is quite an experience.
Overall, Sega Rally Revo is a fun rally game that manages to take you back to the days of dropping quids into an arcade machine. I'd recommend the game to anyone looking for a simple, fun rally experience.
