Editorial Reviews:

Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End is a rollicking voyage in the same spirit of the two earlier Pirates films, yet far darker in spots (and nearly three hours to boot). The action, largely revolving around a pirate alliance against the ruthless East India Trading Company, doesn't disappoint, though the violence is probably too harsh for young children. Through it all, the plucky cast (Keira Knightley, Orlando Bloom, Geoffrey Rush) are buffeted by battle, maelstroms, betrayal, treachery, a ferocious Caribbean weather goddess, and that gnarly voyage back from the world's end--but with their wit intact. As always, Johnny Depp's Jack Sparrow tosses off great lines; he chastises "a woman scorned, like which hell hath no fury than!" He insults an opponent with a string of epithets, ending in "yeasty codpiece."

In the previous The Curse of the Black Pearl, Sparrow was killed--sent to Davy Jones' Locker. In the opening scenes, the viewer sees that death has not been kind to Sparrow--but that's not to say he hasn't found endless ways to amuse himself, cavorting with dozens of hallucinated versions of himself on the deck of the Black Pearl. But Sparrow is needed in this world, so a daring rescue brings him back. Keith Richards' much ballyhooed appearance as Jack's dad is little more than a cameo, though he does play a wistful guitar. But the action, as always, is more than satisfying, held together by Depp, who, outsmarting the far-better-armed British yet again, causes a bewigged commander to muse: "Do you think he plans it all out, or just makes it up as he goes along?" As far as fans are concerned, it matters not. --A.T. Hurley

Summary: Worth watching for the last 20 minutes alone
Comment: I have a bit of a love-hate relatiosip with the 'Pirates of the Carribean' trilogy. On one hand, I absolutely ADORE certain aspects of the films, like Johnny Depp's portryal of Captain Jack Sparrow (pure genious in my opinion), certain story arcs like the love story between Captain Barbosa and Calypso, the costumes are always imaginative and a pleasure to see, and, you know, it's a story about a bunch of pirates out at sea - it's fun, it's exciting, it's a film you can enjoy and not have to take too seriously.

One the other hand, after the first viewing (and sometimes even before that) these films are a bit of a drag. They are long, and the 2nd or 3rd films should be awarded any prizes for imaginative or compelling plot. I often found my mind wandering the the cinema, due to a mixture of not quite grasping exactly what was going on and having to endure one too many a battle scene. But you know, no films perfect.

It's a good film, this is a good trilogy, one that should be watched at least once (if not because you like watching films, because everyone else has so you'll know what people are talking about). Orlando Bloom and Johnny Depp were well picked for the parts of William Turner and Jack Sparrow, each making the character their own and it's delight watching them in this film, in roles they both seem to enjoy thoroughly.

I'm still not quite convincd Keira Knightey was perfect for the choice of Elizabthe Swann but all this really doesn't amount to anything and I'm just nit picking. Watch this film, give it a try, and sit back and enjoy it. although I only gave the film 4 stars (it just didn't BLOW me away compeletely) the last 20-30 minutes are definately something to watch, and though I feel the plot was some what weak for most of the film, this last segment more than makes up for it with an almost perfect final to a very enjoyable trilogy.

Summary: maybe the best of the trilogy
Comment: This is an amazing film, top notch i have seen all of the trilogy and this film is possibly the best, ignore any one who has rated this 1 star and has said they have only watched 30min of it, the film goes on for awhile but that makes it all the better in my opinion, the cast is amazing as always with even more new characters, the effects are quality and has a great story, i strongly recomend this to any one who loves the other two films and has not watched this film yet, and to any film lover, because i think any one can enjoy this, but would be an easier watch if the first two films were watched first, but this is one of the best trilogy's ever made, if not the best.

Comment: What can I say? I mean, 3 hours is a BIT long...! And the storyline falls apart like porridge if you think about it too hard, but you've got to admit that Johnny Depp's done himself proud - I don't think I've ever laughed so much!

Ok, so POTC 3 is the least funny of the lot (Jack Sparrow only says savvy once!!!), but it's definately the most epic. I mean, there's a blooming great whirlpool! And there's a sea battle thats acted out with entirely graphic sea! I mean, clever or what?!?

I defy you to find a funnier trilogy then Pirates of the Caribbean. It's basically impossible! OK, there are bits that you get a bit lost in, but WHO CARES!?!? Becuase, quite frankly, it's a laugh, and that's the only thing you want from POTC apart from the WOW-factor of the animations.

So get it. It's one of my family's favourite and most-watched films! I mean, there are a few people who are disappointed (so if you're worried you'll be one of them, rent it) BUT YOU'VE GOT TO SEE IT!!!

Comment: Sequels can get very self-absorbed but this one is chiefly notable for its excessive length, one begins to lose the will to listen after 40 minutes (so the plot appears unclear) and after an hour one hopes the heroes will be wiped out to allow us all to escape. I gave up in the end. Surely it could have been punchier than this?
