Customer Rating: Summary: It was what it was! Comment: For Godssake reading some of the previous reviews mentioning words such as 'narcissist' and gracious enough to say things like 'suprisingly good'. May I ask 'who the hell do you think you are?' Have you ever got up on a stage and performed? Do you know what that is like? No doubt many of you who have written reviews here live sad existences in the UK and get a tad carried away with your own self importance (not) when the opportunity arises to offer an opinion. This concert created awareness hopefully and made some money for charity. Artists turned up and performed to a crowd that were not necessarily there to see them alone which is an anxiety forming thought to an artist. Some did well others did not. It was a test if anything of the skill to capture an audience which was not necessarily yours and to entertain. In my opinion Robbie Williams won the day. What an entertainer. He had the crowd eating out of his hand and by the time he went on they had been standing for 8 hours. That, despite what all you sad cynics out there have to say is skill. Customer Rating: Summary: Insulting Much!!! Comment: Oh I was there and it was amazing, oh I was in the golden circle, we were at hyde park and I was inspired! What drivel! Nobody cares if you went to Live 8, we want to know what the dvd is like. Well frankley I thankfully missed the live broadcast of Live 8 cos I found something better to do like counting all the squares in my house but some tiny fool decided to get me this abomination for xmas and thank god it's the thought that counts. Over looking momentarily the fact that 80 percent of the musicians were fame seeking tossers the dvd its self holds absolutely nothing of interest or importance. Extras Yawn!!! And the music it's self, well I'll admit there were a few gems in there but Madonna!?! And no offence to the old snoop dog but why!?! This whole publicity staged farce was painful to say the very least. If your a die hard Pink Floyd fan you might want to buy this for there set but other than that I say take your money and buy Live Aid 1985. That show truely was an inspiring music fest with a great message, and yes Im sure that the bands from 1985 were thinking of publicity then too but atleast they had the good sense not to show it and they were more talented anyway. But Live 8, (although Im sure Bob geldolf wanted it to send a message) ended up being a boring uneventful headache thanks to the over caution beeb showing no links or videos of any relevent matters and some of the ghastly performances by fame hungry idiots that probably thought they were there to celebrate national lipgloss day!!! Customer Rating: Summary: Live 8 Roma Comment: While the content was very good in itself, it was extremely disappointing to find that only 11 out of the 26 acts at Live 8 Roma were included on the DVD, and some of those only had one track apiece. Had there been a content listing available at the time of purchase I wouldn't have wasted my time or money on this. Customer Rating: Summary: Rubbish Comment: Not much to be said about this one other than I wish I hadn't wasted my money. Customer Rating: Summary: A line- up ranging from Greatness to terrible Comment: No, it's not as Rock- dominated as Live Aid, no, overall it probably wasn't as good (including the weather in this country so I'm told- I was only 3).
Predictably older acts U2, REM, Velvet Revolver, Def Leppard, Bon Jovi, The Who and Pink Floyd were the only bands that really stood out. The other so- called "Rock" acts being pretty much identically dull Nothing Bands who have taken mediocrity to it's indifferent extreme and flogged it to the British public as genius on Radio 1.
For me the Floyd were the most awesome event of the day but I found the reaction to Velvet Revolver quite strange. After they finished everyone at the BBC seemed a bit unsure what had just happened. It was like "A band seemed to get hold of some guitars and put some passion into playing them on the stage. Let's forget about that and move onto Robbie Williams".
I won't even get started on that waste of space but the reaction to VR was typical of the way real Rock bands are ignored by the popular media in this country (I bet Leppard and Bon Jovi got much better treatment in the US). And then there's the issue of Rock vs. Hip Hop. I don't enjoy much Hip Hop but the only thing I really have against it is it's ratio of airplay and media exposure compared to my preferred styles of music.
Hopefully, as soon as the balance is restored (just as it should be on a larger political and economic scale around the world) hopefully this country can get over it's faddish obsessions with boring whingers like Coldplay, manufactured rubbish and glorified Karaoke performers like that dickhead Williams and decent, talented musicians of all kinds can get a fair share of attention. And as well as the whole issue of not enough African artists, where where Oasis, Bowie, Aerosmith, Simple Minds, Pearl Jam and The Manic Street Preachers? Also, I know most people wouldn't want them anywhere near this kind of event, but I'd have invited Slayer and Metallica.
